Dr. Julie Akers, PharmD, BCACP, is Associate Dean of External Relations and an Associate Professor at the Washington State University College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy from WSU CPPS in 2000. She worked for 11 years at an independent chain as a Pharmacist, Pharmacy Manager, and District Manager. She then spent 2.5 years as Director of Pharmacy overseeing outpatient pharmacies for a physician-owned clinic. Dr. Akers joined the WSU pharmacy program in 2013. She serves on the Washington State Pharmacy Association Board of Directors and is a Past-President of the association; on the Government Affairs Committee for APhA; and has been an APhA Washington State Delegate for several years. Dr. Akers is also on the Board of Directors for Range Community Clinic, a not-for-profit Family Medicine Clinic. In 2006, she was accepted into and completed the Wharton/GSK Pharmacy Leadership Program at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Akers is also a graduate of the AACP Academic Leadership Fellows Program, as part of cohort 17. She is the faculty advisor for several student organizations and teaches Health Care Systems, Pharmacy Management, Pharmacy Law, and a politics elective. Her research focuses on increasing patient access to quality care through advancing community pharmacist provided care.
