Dr. Careen-Joan Franklin is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical and Administrative Pharmacy Sciences at Howard University College of Pharmacy (HUCOP). She is the Residency Program Director for the Howard University-Walgreens PGY1 Community Pharmacy Residency Program and also practices as at the Howard University Hospital Outpatient Mental Health Center. She has coordinated Opioid Overdose and Naloxone Education Programs in Maryland and DC and continues to work to increase community access to naloxone and medications to treat Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) in the District of Columbia. She is currently one of the Network Facilitators for the Community Pharmacy Enhanced Services Network (CPESN) in Washington, DC and is actively involved in many collaborative efforts to expand the pharmacists’ scope of practice in DC and Maryland. Dr. Franklin is one of the co-chairs for the New Practitioner Network of the Maryland Pharmacists Association, has chaired the MPhA Professional Development Committee and is a Maryland delegate for the American Pharmacists Association House of Delegates. She serves on the HUCOP Professional Identity Formation and Cultivation Committer and has worked with her colleagues to intentionally incorporate aspects of Professional Identity Formation (PIFCC) into the curriculum at HUCOP.
